Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese therapy. Just 20 minutes a day in nature is needed to lower stress and decrease muscle tension. Taking in the forest through the senses improves physical, mental, and emotional health. No exercise is required. Simply walk or find a comfortable spot to sit. Listen to the birds, smell the flowers, and watch the leaves sway in the wind. Touch the bark of a tree and dip your feet in a stream. Breathe in the phytoncides. These “essential oils” provide an immune system boost that can last for up to 30 days. Oak, pine, cypress, and cedar provide a huge boost of aromatherapy. Find a place where the landscape speaks to you and relax and enjoy.
